Kittelberger Florist & Gifts would be remiss if we failed to mention how many incredible floral festivals and other attractions there are in our great state. And if you’ve never been to a flower event, do yourself a favor and put one on the calendar now. An incredible way to discover local culture, attending a floral celebration immerses you in the natural landscape of a place, giving you an authentic experience of what it means to live there. The events and festivals we’ve rounded up won’t take you far geographically, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t every bit a transporting experience you’ll never forget.
Rochester Lilac Festival, Rochester, New York
Join hundreds of attendees in Highland Park for ten days of parades, concerts and races all inspired by the purple bloom. Among the many festivities and events, there’s Art in the Park, garden battles and a comedy show on the roster, not to mention 500 varieties of blooming lilacs to admire.
Yaddo Gardens, Saratoga Springs, New York
You may have heard of Yaddo as being one of the country’s premier artist retreats, but as its name suggests, there’s a serious garden involved here, too. On Yaddo’s grounds, you’ll find rose and rock gardens, as well as peaceful woods. Take a tour to get the most out of your visit—there’s even a ghost option available.
Macy’s Flower Show, New York, New York
In March, the iconic store sets aside two weeks—and the space—to showcase gorgeous plants and flowers from around the world. There’s always a fun theme and tons to do, including kids activities, seminars and live music. The floral displays and tableaux are like nothing you’ve ever seen, so be sure to take plenty of pics.
It’s not hard to make your own house a floral attraction by simply ensuring that you have beautiful flowers at all times. Choose seasonal blooms to keep things fresh. We love Summer Whimsy.
